Employees who have been fired from their jobs might be protected from termination even if the medical issue was minor. California employees are entitled to use half of the sick leave they would accrue in a six month period of time. Besides temporary staffing agencies, I have found a lot of companies have the philosophy employees are for sale just like office furniture. Often, the larger the employer the more likely they are to terminate an employee for something stupid. CVS, Home Depot, Ralph's, Target, the big banks, and Walmart seem over eager to end a long term employee's employment based upon one mistake. I am guessing these employers think it is easier to find a replacement than to excuse a single mistake in an eight to twenty year career.
